The Robin Sings of Transformation: Talie Polischuk

Spring has its own music. Its melodic harbinger is the caroling song of the robin, singing away end-of-winter’s dirge with: “cheerily-cheer up-cheerio.”

Talie Polischuk of Zococo has a connection to these birds that is quite maternal in spirit:
If I was a bird I think I would be a robin. We rescued a baby robin that appeared in

our backyard and I raised it until it was old enough to fly away, digging up worms in our
backyard and bringing him with me everywhere I went. Robins are one of the first birds that return after our long winter and they always remind me of the rebirth that comes with each new spring.

Talie’s work is multidisciplinary and she’s worked at printmaking, photography,
ceramics, painting, music/songwriting, leather and metal. Currently, she describes herself as a primarily craft-based leather worker, who loves art’s transformative and remedial nature ... which are also the creative qualities of spring:

Creativity has helped me process life’s challenges, almost alchemically transforming
them into pure gold. I feel like it is a huge blessing to be able to share that gift with
others in my community. I love making art.

Those who stop and perch at her market booth will find leatherwork bookmarks, leather-covered flasks, leaf earrings, tooled cuffs, chokers, wraparound bracelets, moth necklaces, wallets, instrument straps, key chains; prints and postcards; earrings and necklaces:

It makes my heart sing that I can take the time to make each item unique. Every single
bookmark I make is hand drawn and handpainted with leather dye, each pair of leaf earrings has hand-burned veins, and is handpainted. There is something very cathartic and meaningful about that. I love the fact that no two items are alike and that the customer is able to find the piece that absolutely suits their individuality. It also allows me to maintain a genuine passion about what I do.
Talie Polishuk will have so many delightful things to choose from at Proutopia, you’ll be singing “cheerily-cheery” about the goodies you’ll be taking home.

With a tune in my heart,
WK p.p.
